21 August 2021 – Today, my “nephew” Aubrey married his love, Megan, and it was a beautiful wedding. As the wedding party and the bride came down the aisle, they played “Here Comes the Sun.” Immediately, I thought how appropriate it was. We all know the song, and we know the chorus, “Here comes the sun. Do, do, do. Here comes the sun. And I say it’s all right.” But have you ever really listened to the other words. (See below). The imagery intensifies when you read the rest of the lyrics.
Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear ~ "Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles
Nothing lights up your life like the person you love and the person who loves you. When the right person comes into your life, they can help you wipe out the coldness you’ve been feeling. The right person can bring a smile to your face and melt the ice in your heart. The song is a metaphor for love and friendship, and its place at the wedding was perfect.
I have loved this song since the first time I heard it. I was at a Girl Scout sleepover with Meghan at Nautilus. When they woke us in the morning, they slowly opened the blinds while playing the song. I became a little obsessed with it and thought about how to add it to my life. Although I haven’t integrated the song into my life, I have tried to integrate its meaning. I love nothing more than bringing sunshine to the lives of others. A couple of women and I sometimes leave little gifts for people we want to spread joy to with notes signed “The Sunshine Girls.” Nothing gives me more joy than bringing joy to others.
I saw people tonight that I hadn’t seen since before COVID locked everything down. Each one told me how much healthier and happier I seemed. One even said I looked like a ray of sunshine – weird, but true. I was told that I seemed like a different person, much more positive and full of joy. I was even told that I was smiling more than they had ever seen. I do feel much happier and more hopeful for tomorrow than I have in years. I just didn’t know it was being seen by others.
As much joy as I get bringing sunshine to others, I am finally starting to experience sunshine of my own. I look forward to allowing others to shine brightly in my life. Nothing is warmer than the sun. Here comes the sun.
